At the heart of our mission, you’ll find stories like that of An Open Book Foundation (AOB). Driven by the belief that every child deserves the right to the joy of reading, AOB sought to connect students in the Washington, DC area with authors, illustrators, and the enchanting world they create.
With our grant of $5,000, AOB was able to donate roughly 375 books to eager children, enriching both individual and school libraries. This gesture ignited the spark of lifelong reading in students from varying age groups, from preK to high school.
Visits from five authors and illustrators were arranged, offering inspiration direct from the source, at schools where approximately 85% of the students are eligible for the Federal Free and Reduced Meals program. These visits weren’t leaving just memories behind; each participating student received a book signed by the author or illustrator, extending the vibrant world of imagination to their homes and hearts.
In addition, AOB graciously donated approximately 25 more signed books to be placed in school and classroom libraries, allowing infinite future students to embark on the exciting journey of reading.
The Ripple effect of this grant is an illustration of what we stand for – unity, community, and the transformative power of collective action. It’s a reminder that no contribution is too small, that every effort counts, and together, we can create a love for learning that lasts a lifetime!
