Before applying for a Global Grant, both the district or club that is applying for the grant, as well as the district or club hosting the project, must qualify with the Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Club of DC and the DC Rotary Foundation are pre-qualified. Clubs or districts that want to join forces with the DC Rotary Foundation must pursue pre-qualification.

Applying for Global Grants is highly competitive. The Rotary Foundation outlines specific criterion that all successful applications must meet:

    • Advance at least one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus.
    • Funds humanitarian projects; scholarships for graduate-level academic studies; or vocational training teams that travel abroad to teach local professionals or learn more about their own field.
    • Includes a sustainable plan for long-term success
    • Offers measurable goals
    • Responds to real community needs
    • Involves Rotary and community members
    • Confirm with Rotary’s grant terms and conditions

Global Grants require Rotarians to pool funds from multiple resources: varied Rotary clubs, districts, District Designated Funds, and individual contributions. The Rotary Foundation of Washington, DC may selectively join forces with other Rotarians to apply for a Global Grant. The application process differs for members of the DC Rotary Club and members of other Rotary Clubs.

The Rotary Foundation accepts applications throughout the year.

Prospective grantees must submit their application online, but you can pre-plan your responses using the Global Grant application template.
