Protecting and restoring the Anacostia River by bringing partners and communities together to achieve a clean and safe Anacostia River for the benefit of all living in its watershed and for future generations. The Anacostia Watershed Society’s ultimate goal is to make the Anacostia River swimmable and fishable for the health and enjoyment of all community members.

Funding Request For:

The Community Service grant supports the Anacostia River Bioblitz. The four-day Bioblitz is like a “census of the natural world” where community members serve as citizen scientists and document as many species as possible in a short period of time. AWS’s Bioblitz will engage hundreds of local residents. The grant will enable AWS to purchase new supplies to engage more people and contract a bus company to bring students to one of the project sites to participate.
