Engaging older adults and their professional and family caregivers in health improvement and life enhancement through regular participation in the multidisciplinary arts. Arts for the Aging’s vision, in D.C., is to model and promote how important dignity and compassion are in the care of older adults, and that arts intervention strategies provide accessible and uplifting ways to cope with changing abilities as we age.

Arts for the Aging will host 50 Joy in Generation Workshops for older adults in Wards 7 and 8 in 2022. Workshops offer dance, music, creative writing, expressive arts, visual art, art history, poetry, musical theatre, creative movement, theatrical improvisation, digital photography/videography, and playwriting. Hosting intergenerational workshops, we customize trainings for professional and family caregivers. While the need for therapeutic creative aging programs has never been greater, older residents attending eight of the sites impacted by this grant haven’t had access to programs. Reaching these clients will enrich and increase AFTA’s impact on BIPOC participants and caregivers.
