Helping survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their families in its emergency unit to meet their goals for safety. The District Alliance for Safe Housing (DASH) provides a continuum of emergency-to transitional and permanent safe housing programs, emergency financial assistance, and holistic services to empower survivors to rebuild their lives on their own terms. Since survivors seeking crisis-housing sometimes flee with nothing but the clothes on their back, flexible assistance is a crucial strategy for meeting survivors where they are and helping them begin to rebuild their lives.

The $5,000 grant will be used by DASH’s Safe Nights Fund, which directly benefits survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse who receive same-day assistance, and those who need to be placed in hotels to await longer-term placement, with an average hotel stay of five days. A quick transition to a hotel stay— and transportation if necessary— typically occurs within hours but has been negotiated in a matter of minutes in high-lethality situations, including gun violence.
